Mission and Vision

Our Mission – to transform the culture by educating organizations to achieve noble and enduring success.

Three decades ago, Robert Spitzer S.J., Ph.D., began extensive research and testing of leaders and organizations, spanning four continents. He became a teacher and consultant for many large and small companies while founding ethics institutes at Seattle University and Gonzaga University, where he served as president from 1998 to 2009.

In 2003, he was joined by a team of seasoned CEOs to launch a new institute that would take these earlier successes to an entirely new level. Recognizing the compelling intersection of ethics and effective leadership, these directors named it the Spitzer Center for Ethical Leadership – a one-stop entity for his collected works in the fields of philosophy, psychology, organizational development, and management science.

With the benefit of Fr. Spitzer's commitment and personal leadership, the Spitzer Center's Vision is to become the world’s premier source for ethics and leadership education that goes beyond compliance to self-motivated ethical conduct and noble purpose.

The Center has assembled and updated all the work of Fr. Spitzer – merging timeless principles with timely research to meet the leadership challenges of the third millennium. The Center has also expanded its reach by partnering with other proven leaders and organizations with related missions.

Since its founding the Spitzer Center has served a wide variety of organizations, including Caterpillar, the Cleveland Clinic, The Pentagon Office of the Inspector General, Arizona State University, and the Catholic Diocese of Phoenix.

In July of 2009, Fr. Spitzer completed his successful tenure as president of Gonzaga and devoted himself full-time to the work of his two major institutes, the Spitzer Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the Magis Institute in Irvine, California.
